ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported Saturday that the New Orleans Pelicans have decided to move their first-round draft pick from L. Lakers in deal to trade Anthony Davis in 2019 from this year to 2025
The Pelicans will receive this year’s first-round draft rights from the Lakers in the 2019 Davis trade deal, before reports that Pelicans vice president of basketball operations David Griffin Notified Rob Pellinka, general manager of the ‘Purple-Thong’ team, about requesting to postpone the exercise of such rights to 2025.
That means the Lakers will have a first-round pick to either add a star player or use a trade in an attempt to add another star player, with the ‘Purple-Gold’ now having the 17th and 55th picks in the draft. 2024 draft, while the Pelicans have the No. 21 pick in the first round.
Postponing his eligibility to 2025 is a smart move for the Pelicans, as next year’s draft will feature a number of talented players, including Duke’s Cooper Flagg, Dylan Har. Per from Rutgers and French guard Nolang Traore, New Orleans could get one of their star players to add more depth.
