The Golden State Warriors must find their identity again to reclaim their name, according to Draymond Green.
Draymond Green, 34-year-old forward for the Golden State Warriors, believes the key to Saphanthong’s success is finding his identity again during a conversation with the veteran winger. Danny Green on ‘The Draymond Green Show’ after the disappointing conclusion to the 2023-2024 season.
‘I think for us It’s going to be really important for us to define who we are,” Green said. “It’s like, we’re changing. As you said, we get older. We’re not the same basketball team that we were in 2019 or even in 2022.’
‘It changes. And we are adapting to that change. Which is great. I think Steve (Kerr) is doing an incredible job. Where he is more open with Jonathan Cuminga having more possession or with Cuminga being a pick-and-roll guy. Running some of it for Cuminga, it takes some time to adjust when you have the level of success that we’ve had.’
The Warriors struggled with inconsistent play in the 2023-2024 season, which saw Green suspended for several games and playing through injuries that prevented Golden State from qualifying for the playoffs. And with core players like Curry and Klay Thompson entering the late stages of their careers,
Therefore, the transition into the era of Cuminga and several new players is vital to the future of the franchise that is looking to get back on track to success.
