The Phoenix Suns franchise released a statement releasing Frank Vogel from his position as head coach after only one season on the job. Partly because of an embarrassing defeat in the first round of the Western playoffs, they were swept 0-4 by the Minnesota Timberwolves in a series game.
Additional reports from ‘Arizona Central Sports’ that the candidate for the new boss is Mike Budenholzer, former head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks.
“As we learned at the season closing press conference on May 1st. that the organization’s leaders, including myself, Josh Bertelstein and the team’s owners Looking firmly at the goals of basketball operations, if there is something that needs to be changed, then take action.” James Jones, General Manager/President of Basketball Operations Department cast through a statement.
“After considering the results of last season. We have come to the conclusion that we need to find a new head coach for the team.
“We are grateful for Frank’s hard work and his compassion.”
“Up to this point we were playing for the title. And the performance of the season that just ended was lower than expected.”
“We will continue to upgrade our operations and make the changes necessary to achieve our goal of becoming a potential championship team.”
“Everyone in the organization will take responsibility for what happened. It’s my job with Josh and the team owner. in creating a championship-hunting force.”
Phoenix only hired the 50-year-old coach last summer. Winning 49 of 82 regular season games, this is Vogel’s second consecutive dismissal from the team after the Los Angeles Lakers emerged as the 2020 champions.
When signing a contract with Phoenix for 5 years worth $31 million, he will receive compensation as agreed upon.
Suns hire head coach at the end of the second consecutive season after firing Monty Williams once at the end of 2022-23.
