LeBron James, forward for the LA Lakers, admits that he regrets not having the opportunity to work with guard Kyrie Irving again at the professional level because he is only a few seasons from retirement. It’s hard to see a path to wearing the same uniform again.
James used to work with Irving at the Cleveland Cavaliers, with the highlight being the 2016 NBA championship. Then, at the end of the following season, the high-ego guard wanted to leave the shadow of ‘LBJ’ and wander into Boston Celtics, Brooklyn Nets and now the Dallas Mavericks have qualified for the 2024 NBA Finals.
Thinking back to the atmosphere of yesterday, James still regrets it.
“Sitting here and watching that guy compete. I feel extremely happy and proud to see him continue to grow. The way it is” Opening mouths on the ‘Mind the Game’ podcast
“Then at the same time I was really upset that I wasn’t his team mate anymore.”
“Personally, there were many words I wanted to praise Kyrie, but in the end I didn’t say them. Let’s just say he’s one of the most talented athletes I’ve ever met in the league.”
“I have never seen anyone lose their footing and still shoot as well as he does.”
Irving is averaging 22.8 points in the playoffs this season, his most since his final season with Cleveland. He also has 5.2 assists, 3.9 rebounds and is 48.5% accurate on field goals (42.1% from long range). )
